Little Things That Make Christmas Magic
This year is going to be our first Christmas with our six month old baby George.
Last year I was a huffing puffing pregnant lady, chopping vegetables leaning on a stool, after deciding it was a great time to try hosting Christmas Day at our house for the first time.
We made it through and much like giving birth, I have forgotten about the pain and decided to do it all again this year. It's allowed a little bit of Christmas magic to sneak back into our lives, family gathered around a wonderful meal, the beautiful tree and ... just what is it exactly that puts the festive spirit into our lives at this time of year?
I decided to take a look on Etsy to find some of the things that help me make a magical Christmas.
This article contains affiliate links and images to products found on Etsy, there is no charge or hidden catch for you, it just means if you do decide to buy something, I will benefit, and if not, hope you enjoyed reading the article, thanks!
1. Decorations on the Tree
I have the standard battered thirty year old cardboard box that hides in the back of the cupboard and contains all the decorations for the tree. I'm about as attached to that Smirnoff box as I am to the contents, though the vodka was drunk long ago.
2. Christmas Stockings
I thought I was doing quite well last year getting a new stocking to hang above the log burning stove, but it broke, alas! Quite a good excuse to look at buying a new one then. Am I too old for a stocking? Probably, but now lovely baby George can have his very own personalised one instead!
3. Christmas Jumpers
Was it Bridget Jones who decided my fate was to ever wear a Christmas Jumper on Christmas Day? I don't know but that scene where Mark Darcy and Bridget wear matching jumpers is ever etched in my memory, and I do expect my family to honour this. I now have the added delight of George's first ever Christmas jumper too. Mummy and Daddy and Baby George jumpers to choose from!
4. Presents Under the Tree
Two years ago, I received quite possibly the best Christmas present ever, from Etsy, in the form of a quiver and arrows, not exactly something you can buy in your everyday shop!
I love finding unique and unusual gifts for my family, here are some ideas with a Scottish theme to inspire you:
5. Christmas Mood
In our home, Christmas songs are played during the decoration of the tree, and on Christmas Day, hiding the screams of panic in the kitchen. Mince pies are warmed up and served, though no one really eats them and I still have a jar of mincemeat in the cupboard from last years aspirations of making my own. Candles are lit, and if we get the chance we attend a church service to sing some carols. I hope your Christmas is a magical one this year.
